Pilates for Runners

Pilates can make a huge contribution to running. A lot of runners do what they do best- they run and run and run! But running needs more than this. Running needs a stable foundation to support you and to propel the legs step after step.

Pilates gives you the strong core for this foundation and can enhance pelvic stability, so that your hips don’t rock about unbalanced. Steady hips and a strong core will allow you to stride further with more power and efficiency. This is also important when you start to tire- the legs will fatigue and your hips will sway in a more disjointed way, slowing you down and placing more strain on your body. Pilates will also aid injury prevention by keeping all your muscles strong and supportive to your joints.

Friday Fun- Pilates challenge

Another Pilates motivator for the weekend! 

Do you do more exercise or less at the weekend? This weekend whichever option you choose, try to include a few minutes of Pilates! A few minutes is all it takes to engage the core, re-align the body and create strength. Daily practise is where you will find the real results. Daily practise is much more beneficial than doing one big session once a week. Daily practise creates muscle memory, allowing you to progress your practise further.

Welcome to Freshly Centered!

Finally! Here is the start of my website, bringing you fitness, health and wellbeing information with a pilates twist. I hope to bring together all aspects that I am involved in to deliver some interesting reads such as:

  • Fitness advice, training plans and motivation
  • Pilates programmes
  • Injury prevention and treatment tips with the latest evidence and research

This is all very new to me and it has been an exciting project so far for 2014! I am very excited to finally launch the site today! Please bear with me on technical problems and we may be slow in getting going as I learn the ropes of running an online site… But for now please watch this space!
